Yesterday we toured Apple Island on Orchard Lake in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The island was inhabited by Native peoples throughout the early modern period, roughly 1500-1800 AD, mostly Ojibwes, Odawas, Potawatomis, Hurons, Huron-Wendats, Miamis and Iroquois. It is a legend that Chief Pontiac is interred among the “Indian mounds” on the islands west end.
The Docent that filled us in on it’s history explained that this tree was approximately 300 years old. I see lots of faces with grimaces of the past. How many faces do you see?
